Uproar over the Waterloo Euro coin.

Here is a photo of the newly designed Euro coin. Remarkably well produced if I may say so. It commemorates the 200th anniversary of the battle of Waterloo
It may never see circulation if the French have anything to do with it.
They are saying that the minting of this coin is raising the specter of old divisions among the European powers and should not be allowed to go forward.
What a pity!

Or perhaps the real reason is that the French were well and truly beaten in this decisive battle and their pretensions as the leading European power came to an abrupt end.
A consequence for which I, as an Englishman, give humble and hearty thanks to God.

Spring in Canada.

Today the temperature has risen above freezing for the first time since January; in fact in February we endured most days around negative 15 centigrade.
But today the sun is shining and it is the quintessential
Canadian light that is streaming through my window; radiance of the rays enhanced by the reflection of the crystal white snow.
Global warming has begun.
In Canada we call that Spring. Soon we shall see the grass and the sound of the song birds will be in the air and the Winter of 2015 will be but a memory.
In a few hours time my wife, Pauline, will be boarding a plane to go to England to attend her cousin's funeral. Thus we have two cycles:
the cycle of the seasons and the cycle of life.
What is comforting is the knowledge that in all things God rules supreme and, for those who love Him, He will be bring about the best possible outcome.
The best possible outcome for me in the next few days is that Pauline will come home soon. This house will grind to a halt without her!
