Greetings from the Wilson's for 2016

We missed sending you our Christmas greetings, one of our family being absent for the group photo.
Here is a picture of the full clan to help bring in the New Year together.
We may not know what 2016 holds but we know Who holds 2016 and that is what matters.
So from all of the Wilson's to all of our far flung friends and family
peace, health and joy to you in Christ's Blessed Name.

Christmas: A true perspective.

Expect the Wilson's family portrait sometime between now and New Year. As the family has grown, and two of them have hied off to university, it has become a feat to get us altogether in one place for a photo-op. We will do it in a couple of days at our family feast.
Meantime I present you with a little known painting of Santa Claus kneeling before his boss and greatest benefactor.

Sort of puts things in their right perspective.

We trust that you and your family enjoy a memorable time this Christmas, as the bliss of the Season and the blessedness of the Reason fill your hearts and homes.

Merry Christmas.

Ian and Pauline.

Christmas. This little Light of Mine.

There has been excited talk between branches of the Union of Real Santa's about what really discriminates between a real and a fake Father Christmas. Does he have a real beard or simply cotton wool stuck on his cheeks? Is he a fully paid up member of the union, does he wear the full standard Santa suit. Piffle indeed.
But well meaning and sincere Christians are asking similar questions.
When was Jesus really born? Was it in on December 25th or sometime in September?
What about a Christmas Tree? Is this really a pagan symbol of the fertile earth? Should we decorate the house?
Can we introduce the candle lighting ceremony of Hannukah just ensure that we are in line with Jewish tradition?
Shakespeare wrote a play entitled "Much ado about Nothing."
He could have been speaking about Christmas and all the to-do and drama that goes on.
We will all keep the main thing the main thing if we LET THE LIGHT SHINE.
Last week a few of us went down to the city centre and lifted up our voices to sing carols and remind people that JESUS is the reason for it all. No Jingle Bells, no Chris Kringle, no Frosty the Snowman, just a few men singing and shouting forth the good news of Christ's birth. Was it the best way? Could there have been a better way? Maybe, but it was OUR WAY. If you let the light shine in YOUR way this Christmas, from fifty miles in space it will all look like one big kaleidoscope of Christian light and wouldn't that be great!

Hark the Herald Angels.

My brother in law from England enquired yesterday why he had not received a BWI for a week. He was suggesting that in seven days of Donald Trump, climate change and international Jihad I was a little off my game.
Not so! There has been a recent warning that too much red-meat is bad for the health and so I decided to stay with the more serene message of Christmas.
Since David attends a Methodist Church he should be happy that Pauline is sending the strains of Hark the Herald Angels through our house even as I write.
Charles Wesley penned the hymn over over 250 years ago. Arguably it has been the most loved and most sung carol ever composed.
Charles went on to write about 4,000 other sacred songs. He is the most prolific and inspired of all English speaking poets. I read one of his hymns every morning as part of my devotions. His verse, his sublime themes, his magnificent metre, his mastery of the language, his deep insights into the forlorn state of the human heart and of the infinite mercy of God to reach out accept, forgive and redeem, place him at the very apex of literary genius.
Through his writings and the preaching of his brother John, England averted the blood shed of a revolution that convulsed France in the 18th Century. Fully one million people, out of a English population of six million, were swept into the Kingdom of God during the religious revival that engulfed the land.
How wonderful! Why is it then that we have not heard more of Charles Wesley and why his body of work has not been enshrined with that that of Browning, Byron, Shakespeare and Shelley?
In a word: PREJUDICE. That very rooted and obstinate disposition I meet every day when I speak to people of the redeeming love of God and their refusal to listen. I have got used to it. Nothing much has changed in 200 years.
But I still recommend the poems of Charles Wesley as the greatest ever penned.
Merry Christmas.

Herod: His problem with Christmas.

In every perfect story there just has to be a villain; the Christmas narrative is no exception.
No sooner was Jesus born onto this earth than the devil was on the move to rob mankind of the greatest gift ever bestowed.
He had a willing instrument in the person of King Herod.
We all know the story of how he lied to the Wise Men who arrived in Jerusalem looking for the Royal baby. Naturally they thought that if there was to be king of the Jews he would be found in the palace of the nation's capital.
Not so. He was down the road about 8 miles in a stable in Bethlehem. But having lied to the wise men saying that he too wanted to be part of the entourage to worship Christ, Herod then went on a murderous rampage to eliminate every baby boy in the vicinity of South Judea.
Who knows how many children died in the massacre.
Horrific though it was, Herod's treachery did not thwart the purposes of God from being unfolded on the earth through His Son.
Nor will the attacks in Paris and in San Bernadino by the mad jihadists put out the bright light of the Gospel nor quench the message of the love of God this Christmas 2015.
Carols will still be sung, manger scenes erected, pilgrimages made, sermons preached, gifts given, candles lit, trees decorated and we will know THAT ALL IS STILL WELL.

It will be a MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Further hysteria in Paris.

As if the shoot-up in Paris was not enough, long suffering Parisians now have to contend with the descent of thousands of scientists, politicians, body-guards, N.G.Os, media-types, journalists, number-crunchers and the like, all assembled to fix our planet's climate problems. They have come for the:
                "Third International Climate Symposium"
Over the past century, the average temperature of Mother Earth has risen by 1.1 degrees centigrade and President Obama has said:
"We are here to do something about it."
How comforting!
Is it a coincidence that this mighty Brains Trust is come together in Paris?
This city two weeks ago saw the worst massacre in Europe since the second world war; human behaviour in all its untameable fury. Now the world leaders have assembled to tame the vagaries of our PLANET'S  behaviour.
Not ONE but TWO "Mission Impossibles."
For the first problem, the incorrigible nature of man, God has the solution of the Cross of Christ.
As for the second, Global Warming, God says "There is no problem. My Hand is on the thermostat. Now all of you folk go home and read your Bibles!"

Happy, sunny days are here at last.

"happy, sunny days are back." This was the campaign call of our new prime minister Justin Trudeau when he took office a month ago.
His first order of business was to withdraw Canada's air force from the fight against ISIS, (just as NATO was calling for a united effort to defeat them).
His pledge to bring 25,000 Muslim immigrants to Canada by the end of the year was all part of "Here comes the Sunshine". This crazy project, which has brought hundreds of these people to our local military base, was heralded in our City press as " Welcome to our friends from Syria."
But, just to make sure that they WERE all "friends", all 'straight' single young men have been banned from  the group while homosexuals and trans-genders have received their visas!
Meanwhile, to keep the sun shining, after years of prohibiting smoking in public places (for health and safety reasons) permission has now been given to smoke "medical" marijuana in the streets, parks, play-grounds and RESTAURANTS.
The sunshine is really shining, and to ensure blue skies prevail, there will be no carols sung in our schools at Christmas nor hymns mentioning the name of Jesus in public squares in Toronto.
Listen good Canadians, make sure you enjoy the sun while it lasts, its the AFTER-GLOW of Christianity.

And now this to cap off a week of madness.

What a society we live in. What an age of the tragically bizarre.
What a land of make believe and the unbelievable.
Today, leading cinema chains in England banned a 60 second advert of children, farm workers, refugees and housewives saying The Lord's Prayer. This harmless commercial was to be aired before Star Wars and other newly minted movies but was deemed to be too dangerous since "it might offend others of differing faiths or those of no faith at all."
Beam me up Scotty!
After a week of havoc, mayhem and hell wreaked by the radicals of Islam, the mild, gentle Church of England led by it's mild, inoffensive Archbishop was banned from a 60 second prayer of unity by the leading media chains of Britain.
Surely it MUST be clear to every unprejudiced mind that there is a Devil in the world and that he controls the minds of the cigar-smoking moguls of the media empire.
Bloodshed, adultery, perversion, cheating, havoc, murder-most foul, horror, fraud and infidelity let's have it by the cart load but O never, never let children be seen praying in our cinemas. TOO DANGEROUS! It would give the wrong impression and, who knows, somebody might be offended.
I rest my case.
Good night and, dare I say it, GOD BLESS.

Islamophobia: A word no longer in fashion.

After the 911 Twin Towers attacks, the people who know better than the rest of us coined the word "Islamophobia". Simply put it means
"an irrational, unbased fear of Muslims".
When all the patriotic fervour that swept America after these attacks had died down, the intellectuals and the politically-correct -set got to work and glossed over the whole affair. They told us the  incident had been carried out by a 'fanatical few' and that any lingering fear of the muslim population here or anywhere else was "Islamophobia".
So a new word was entered into our lexicon. "Islamophobia"
In the past three weeks events have taken place that have had remarkable and permanent effect on public thinking. Let me list them:
The suicide bombing in Beirut that left forty dead.
The destruction of the Russian airlines over Sinai: 235 dead.
The Paris massacre: 130 dead with 300 wounded.
The Mali hotel massacre 30 dead.
All of these attacks carried out by Islamic madmen.
Nobody in Paris is talking politically correct language anymore.
There is a REAL AND PRESENT danger that cannot be charmed away by smooth  talk  from psychologists. Listen to the French Minister of the Interior this week:
"The VERY IDEA OF FRANCE is under attack and we must win this ideological war or lose our existence as a nation."
Straight talk at last and with 25,000 muslim immigrants arriving on Canada's shores in the next four weeks we had better brace ourselves for our own Lexicon to be changed.

Why the West is losing the battle with ISIS.

We are in a state of war according to President Hollande of France.
Maybe, but if we are we are going to lose.
Here is the REALITY as it is TODAY. We have two sides;
RADICAL ISLAM and THE FREE WEST.
One side is committed to killing EVERYBODY who will not pay homage to their flag.
The other side is reluctant to kill ANYBODY.
One side knows NOTHING about the declaration of human rights,
The other side WROTE the document.
One side believes in NO TRIALS but burns and beheads all whom it captures.
The other side believes in justice for all, fair trials by jury and with free lawyers and appeals system, with NO capital punishment.

And we think we are going to win this war!

Listen to the words of Lord Macaulay. They are printed on a plaque in the Imperial War Museum in London (or they were when I was last there)

"War, if it must be war, must be fought implacably, relentlessly and without mercy: all else is IMBECILITY."

Will some one please read this to our dear Prime minister Trudeau, who last week withdrew our forces from the battle against ISIS whilst in the same breath he proclaimed solidarity with NATO.

Paris. This means WAR.

Fighting words today from Francois Hollande, President of France. He has issued a declaration of war against ISIS. We are not quite sure what that means for we had assumed, after a year-long Nato bombing campaign, that we were already at war with this group of mad muslims.
Well, after the Paris massacre on Friday we are REALLY at war.
But just how are we to engage in this battle?
In World War 2 we all knew who the enemy was. We identified him as Adolph Hitler and Nazi Germany or Benito Mussolini and Fascist Italy and we mobilized to get take them out. But now we are told that we are fighting a war against "terror", and our befuddled leaders seem incapable of identifying who the enemy actually is.
Then let me suggest how we might begin to wage this battle.
1) Stop naming our enemy by the abstract title of "terror".
 2) Call  'terror' by its politically incorrect name 'RADICAL ISLAM.'
3) Own up to the fact the we have a 'Fifth Column' in our countries: savage killers who support their brutality from vague texts in the Koran.
4) Admit to the imbecility of allowing unrestricted waves of muslim immigrants into the West when there are hundreds of ISIS fighters embedded with them ready to wreak havoc when they arrive.
5) Finally, confess that our Western Societies have rejected the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ in favour of aggressive secularism. It is time for every one of us to re-discover our faith roots in Christ  and once again STAND UP to be counted as A TRUE CHRISTIAN.

Yours for victory.

Horror in Paris.

Tonight Paris is a city rent apart with mayhem, murder and unimaginable horror.
The leaders of the free West, including our own brand new prime-minister, have all issued statements of sorrow and expressed their solidarity with the French people.
Familiar words have been used in their eloquent condolences:
heart-broken, anguished, shocked, saddened, overwhelmed, deeply traumatized: the full lexicon of grief and loss. And to define the dastardly deeds of the terrorists that have left hundreds dead and wounded: horrifying, brutal, inhuman, despicable, disgusting, outrageous, bestial.... every fitting adjective except one. That word is PREDICTABLE.
After the Charlie Hebdo massacre, as horrible as it was, I said:
"Expect another, for radical Islam will be relentless against our civilization."
Now, less than a year later, we are treated to scenes of another blood-bath in Paris, but this time far, far worse.
To which I again say, "Expect another"
Pouring into Europe from the Middle East in the last year have been hundreds of thousands of islamic refugees and, it has only been announced tonight, that as many as four thousand ISIS fighters are embedded in this flow of humanity.
How imbecilic! While France has closed her borders to prevent terror suspects from escaping she is opening her airports to unnamed others intent on doing the work started by their brothers.
Such is the mad-house of our modern secular world that has for decades ridiculed the gospel of Christ as an out-dated myth.
Out-dated! I somehow suspect that the churches in old secular Europe will be full once again this Sunday!

Hundred Years Ago.

Today I stood to attention at my local gym. The whir of the machines went silent, the clank from the heavy metal section at the far end of the hall stopped and the ladies halted in the middle of their ball-and-bounce routine. It was the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The cease fire had come to the battlefields of Europe. The first world war had ended.

My Uncle Oliver returned from the trenches of the Somme River with a few of his comrades from the Durham Light Infantry. There were a lot that they left behind; bodies that were later to be gathered together and placed in neat rows in the cemeteries of Belgium and France. There they will remain under the green sward with their white crosses until the grand Last Day when everything will be made a lot clearer than it is today.
On Saturday last, a company of good men and myself gathered at the cenotaph in our city. We lifted up our voices and sang a rousing hymn and then preached for a few minutes on the immortal phrase from Kipling's anniversary poem "Lest We Forget".
Not only that we should bring to mind the sacrifice of our troops who laid down their lives in the cause of freedom, but also of the supreme sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ who fought the good fight on the cross of Calvary for all man kind.
There were no objections from the passers-by (in fact we had a friendly police cruiser who stayed with us for the whole service.)
It was the way it should be. The Law upholding the right of all citizens to engage in peaceful assembly and those same citizens exercising their right of free speech.
That's what my Uncle Oliver marched to war to protect and I have a feeling that he would be pleased that his nephew was enjoying that hard won freedom.

The missile launch that "never was".

The sight of a blue/green light streaking up from the shores of California and heading into the darkness of the Western Pacific had a lot of people scared on Friday. Was this a UFO? Was this an experimental aircraft that had gone off course? Or was this some sort of secret weapon that had just been launched by the U.S Department of Defence?
There has been no satisfactory answer from the Military Media, the people who usually deal with "official" answers to the public.
However, putting two and two together, we can surmise that the unexplained light came from the launch of a thermo-nuclear Triton Missile.
There have been encounters between the U.S Navy and Chinese warships guarding the disputed Spratley Islands where the Chinese have been constructing forward airbases. Further alarming the U.S. government have been reports of Chinese missile ships engaging in joint 'first response' nuclear exercises with the Russians in the Western Pacific.
Enough has apparently been ENOUGH! Last week the U.S. Navy sent it's latest Trident missile zooming over the Chinese and Russian fleets a thousand miles out at sea. It carried a clear warning. "Don't come a step closer, or the next one may be loaded"
This is the Brave New World in which we are living folks, where the real Global Warming is but the flick of a switch away.

Ah, that Name of Jesus again.

After my last post on the public ban imposed on the evangelical testimony of 'Voices to the Nations' in Toronto, there were many 'likes' and 'shares'. I felt a further post was in order, especially with the rapid approach of Remembrance Day:that solemn occasion when we recall the sacrifice of all who died for the cause of freedom in our world wars.
On Saturday, November 7th, several men (myself included) will descend on Memorial Square in Barrie in order to lift our own voices in the cause of freedom. Freedom to peacefully assemble in our own city; freedom to preach the gospel message and freedom from the tyranny of all who would deny free men that right. Which is, after all, why our fathers marched forth to battle in decades gone by.
Our dearly beloved national anthem declares in a single pungent phrase this liberty that we all hold so dear:

"GOD KEEP OUR LAND GLORIOUS AND FREE, O CANADA WE STAND ON GUARD FOR THEE."

That is what we will be doing in a couple of days when we exercise our right as members of a western democracy to give public testimony in our city.
In short we will be helping God to keep our land glorious and free.
Want to join us?   We will be at Memorial Square at 11:00 am.

It's that Name of Jesus again.

What's new! This week Toronto City Hall moved to ban public gatherings of Christians who wished to uplift Christianity by way of song, drama and dance.
"Voices of the Nations" had applied for a permit to hold a 'multi-denominational event' on the Yonge-Dundas square. They have held this annual event for a number of years but next year's concert has been squashed.
Ms Natalie Belman (in charge of the city hall permits department) has refused to issue a permit for 2016 on the grounds that Voices of the Nations is proselytizing and 'such actions are contrary to city hall policy.'
The song Ms Belman took aim at was "These are the days of Elijah" and the repeated chorus "There's no God like Jehovah" which, she claims, is an affront to other religions.
And so we have it, YET AGAIN.
No ban against Moslems praying on the street in the name of Allah, or the Sikhs praying at their festival in the name of Krishna, but O those Christians and O THAT NAME OF JESUS.
In a few days time we will have Remembrance Day parades all across this land, and so we ought.
Let's honor those men who went to war and never came home. Where are they now, those fallen heroes? Sleeping beneath the turf in the cemeteries of Europe, their graves in neat rows all marked by WHITE CROSSES  proclaiming the faith that Ms Belman wants to ban from the brave world of our NEW Toronto.

When The Bubble Bursts

Yesterday we witnessed another "Only in America".
It came upon the inhabitants of Northern Pennsylvania as a monstrous apparition: a ghost-come-early for Halloween. What could it possibly be this 300 foot long, silvery sky-slug?
Relax folks. You were looking at a "joint land attack cruise missile elevated netted sensor"; a giant blimp designed to thwart an
imaginary attack against the American homeland.
By the time the giant blimp (which had broken from its tether) came to land it had destroyed miles of power lines and left 20,000 people without electricity. The only real attack on the American homeland. And an attack upon the taxpayer's wallet as well, at a mind- boggling cost of 2.7 billion dollars.
This was the latest Pentagon delusion foisted upon the law-makers as a good idea, and it came down with a hiss of hydrogen and public derision.
Someone once said that "the most abundant elements in the universe are hydrogen and stupidity". In this week's misbegotten venture we have been given the perfect combination of the two.

We few, we happy few.

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers" thus King Henry the fifth addressed his men on the eve of the Battle of Agincourt six hundred years ago today.
It is a battle that has been recorded in the annals of English history as "God's own fight."
There is plenty of evidence to support this thought.
Henry Fifth found his path back to the coast of France barred by a vengeful army of French knights and men at Arms. They numbered around 21,000. Facing this formidable array were the English forces numbering no more than 6,000 long bow men and assorted knights in armour.
Without going into the particulars of the encounter, by the time the battle was over, an overwhelming victory had been recorded by English arms. Possibly 12,000 French were killed against no more than 500 English dead.
Small wonder that Shakespeare made hay out of this event in the Elizabethan theatres in his play King Henry 5th.
When my son Mark and I traversed the battlefield eighteen months ago I was struck by how small an area encompassed the field of battle; no more than half a mile in length and less than three hundred yards wide. While I walked around proudly quoting Shakespeare I also was overwhelmed by a strange presence, a feeling that I was walking on sacred ground. I was brought to tears.
The same tears I shed at Normandy beach three days later. Tears for the men who fought and died, tears for the folly that leads men into war and tears for the fact that we will continue to repeat the process until men learn to beat their swords into ploughshares and until the lion finally lies down with the lamb.

Surprised by Joy.

C.S Lewis wrote s a sparkling little book entitled "Surprised by Joy".
I can recommend it as a good read when you have a spare evening.
He is telling of how God caught him unawares and revealed Himself in ways that his own mighty intellect could never have figured out.
Yesterday Pauline and I were driving home by a different route than we normally take and suddenly we were "Surprised by Joy". Round the next bend we were confronted by Canadian Fall in all its splendor. A lap-top camera, a precarious position by the verge of a narrow road, a quick click and lo, these photos sent from Canada with love.

Pauline and I are not included (she took the shot and I was left off!)
We have a lot of friends in various parts of the earth. This is about the best way I can think of to wish you all a joyful Thanksgiving: that you may all experience and enjoy as much of God's blessing and abundance as you can handle, that His favour and prosperity may crown you, along with health and joyful family relationships and that we may all live long enough for you to receive another photo like this one in 2016!

Syria. Who are the bad guys?

News yesterday that America has abandoned its programme to train the 'moderate' opposition to fight Bashar Assad. They have so far spent THREE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS on the project and have exactly eighty soldiers ready for battle. This works out to about $3,500,000:00 per trainee.
Now the strategy is to seriously arm the rebels with heavy artillery. In other words to help them blow bigger holes in more buildings and thus exacerbate the refugee crisis.
But just who are the 'good' guys in this internecine brawl going on in Syria?  El Nusra, Al Quaeda, ISIS, Holy Jihad and, of course,
the Assad loyalists. It is agreed they are all bad. But we have yet to locate the good guys.
Meantime the Kurds are at war with Turkey, Russia is backing Assad, Saudi Arabia is supporting anybody who will fight Iran and shortly America could be involved in a shooting war with Russia.

It's the Middle East folks. The place where things have been going up in smoke for centuries.
A few miles from Damascus, the capital city of Syria, a man called Paul had a personal encounter with the Risen Lord Jesus Christ.
He lived to write half the New Testament of the Bible. In his letter to the Thessalonians he foretold exactly the events that we are reading about today. He said, quite emphatically, that they would prelude the end of our present civilization with the return of the Son of God to rule on Earth.
Personally, even as I read my own post, I believe that He is the only One who can sort out the mess. If you know of any one else please let me know.

Another week;another shootout.

"This is becoming routine." was how President Obama described the latest massacre, this one being at a community college in Oregon.
Even the great communicator had lost the vocabulary to describe the horror of yet another blaze of homicidal gunfire that cut down ten students in a quiet rural area of the U.S. North West.
In 1863, after another horrendous battle in the Civil war,
President Lincoln said these words:

"Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; to recognize that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord....... We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand that has preserved us in peace, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom or virtue of our own. Intoxicated by unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God who made us. It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our National sins and to pray for clemency and forgiveness."

In my opinion a prayer that should be prayed in every school, in every college, in every court-house, in every church, in every home and by every mouth that has breath, in the once great nation of America.

You are GONE.

If the burqa business was not enough to give the Liberals and National Democrats heart-burn, we now have the great passport controversy. This week in Canada a couple of Muslims, convicted of a plot to blow up a Canadian National train track, were told that their passport and citizenship have been revoked.
They will be sent back to their countries of origin when they have served jail time.
Seems simple?
Not so to the Liberals, NDP and the Green Party, who jointly decry the heavy handed tyranny of the government.
The problem with their "principled" position is that main-street Canada disagrees with them and, in an election year, that has proved fatal for their parties.
Mr. Mulcair has accused Prime-minister Harper of using the niqab and passport issues as "weapons of mass destruction". Very true, but the only people who have so far been blown up in the polls are the parties that have opposed these measures.
Too bad, but who said playing politics was a gentlemanly affair anyway?

THE GREAT NIQAB BRAWL

Here in Canada we have been involved in an election campaign for the last 8 weeks. We are now entering the home stretch with voting day planned for the 19th October.

Until this week, the three major parties were deadlocked in the polls on issues like the economy, the environment and foreign policy, but now the log jam seems to have broken and the Conservatives are pulling ahead.
What was the reason? Why, the simple question of whether to allow Muslim women to wear a full niqab veil at their swearing-in ceremony as Canadian citizens.
"Show your face!" says the prime-minister, Mr Harper.

Mulcair and Mr. Trudeau say " To do so is a violation of your rights and freedoms. Keep your veil on."
Maybe so, but in Quebec 90 % of the people think other wise and are about to hand the election to the Conservatives on that one single issue.

Strange how massive events can turn on the smallest of fulcrums.
It may be that after October 19th it will be Mr. Trudeau and Mr. Mulcair that will be looking for a veil to cover their faces because by then there will plenty of egg on them.

The Day of Battle

My son, Mark has passed on to me a WW 2 trilogy written by Rick Atkinson. I'm well into the second volume called The Day of Battle.(The Italian Campaign)
I am going away with Pauline tomorrow for a few days and she has already suggested I limit myself to an hour of reading each day. If that can't be done, leave the book at home!
Seventy years after the event I have floods of memories coming back to me of life in my home town of York during and after the war.
If only I could spend time with my neighbours and family members who survived the great conflict and returned home to tell the tale.
Back then I was only six years old and had weightier matters on my mind than war-talk!
In my own small circle there was Gill Merrick who was in the  army, Ron Coleman, Royal Airforce, Jack Pitchfork, a submariner, and my dad in the Home Guard. All these on one street. My uncle Jimmy served in the 8th army with Montgomery and my Uncle Chris was a gunner in a Lancaster bomber shot down over the North Sea.
With the exception of Uncle Chris, they all had their stories and, doubtless would have told them well. My Uncle Oliver was in an earlier war and fought on the Somme. He was so affected by two years of hell that he refused to speak of the experience even to his closest friends.
Tom Brokaw has called these men and women (my mother who looked after home and hearth was probably the most intrepid  warrior of all) the "greatest generation" I'm inclined to believe him.
What would I give to spend on hour with each and record their narrative? I can't, they have passed on in life's ever rolling stream, but, belatedly today, I thank them each and everyone.

Enter, Donald Trump

Whether you like him;whether you hate him, Donald Trump has become more than a "seven day wonder" in the Republican race for the White House.
With his audacious insults of just about every major national figure, combined with politically incorrect bombs thrown in all directions, Trump has succeeded in enraging the media and fellow republican candidates alike.
If this has been done unintentionally or as part of a predetermined strategy is unclear, but either, or, he is currently leading the pack in terms of his popularity.
Among Trump's stated objectives if elected President: a Trump Wall erected from West to East along the Mexican border, the deportation of all illegal immigrants, the deportation of all visitors to America when their visas expire, a warning to North Korea to stop threatening their neighbours or risk being bombed, the instant scrapping of Obama-care, the de-funding of Planned Parenthood and the nixing of the Iran Nuclear arms deal, to mention but a few.
For these blunt, un-ambivalent statements Trump is now the front runner in the Republican field and, in a head-to-head match up with Hilary Clinton, leads the poll by 49 to 44 %.
Meanwhile it is rumoured that Rosie O Donnell has threatened to commit suicide if Trump is elected.
Better keep the pills handy, Rosie, we might yet be seeing the inauguration of The Donald in 2016.

A word of appreciation

                           TEN WEEKS TO WELLNESS.
                                       IAN WILSON
Yesterday I had more greetings and good wishes than at any other time and for any other birthday. For all those sentiments and for all well-wishers, my heartiest thanks. I hope I'm still around at 77 to get some more!
I have given you a photo of a book that I recently wrote for the use of small groups in our church.
"Ten Weeks to Wellness"
As one of our men observed to the congregation "It is not one step to wellness or one pill to wellness. It is ten weeks."
Anyway, I decided to share with as many as may be interested some of the secrets to wellness that I have proved over the years, and especially for the last twenty.
If humans were only a body then the doctors and surgeons would surely be able to supply all the needed solutions to a long and happy life. But the answers are not that simple. There is the emotional side of our being, the mental, the relational and, perhaps most important of all, what we refer to as the "Hidden Man of the Heart".
Achieving harmony at all levels of being is the key to what Jesus called "abundant life"
At 76 years of age I can claim to have had my fair share of just that and in "Ten Weeks to Wellness" I share some of these well proven principles.
If you want a copy (or copies) let me know by phone # 705 733 1307 or by email at ipwilson@rogers.com and we will see what we can do.

Migration or Colonization.

We must be very clear that the year of 2015, which has seen the greatest mass movement of people since WW 2, is going to be followed by 2016, 17, 18, 19 & 20.
The end of Middle East migration to the West is not even in sight, nor is it being controlled.
Angela Merkel, chancellor of Germany, has said that the 500,000 refugees who have arrived in Europe this year is but "a drop in a bucket" compared with what is to follow.
This being the case, get ready for our culture of freedom of speech, open-handed justice, traditions and laws as we know them, to be radically changed. It is not the NUMBERS of people that will bring about this change but the doctrine of ISLAM that will effect these transformations.
Almost 100 % of the refugees who are looking for a home in the West are Muslim and will be be bringing their religion with them.
The same doctrines of Allah that produced jihad, chaos and upheaval in Syria and Iraq will do the same in Europe.
Guaranteed.
When Pauline and I migrated to Canada in 1973 we learned about the history and traditions of our new land and obeyed its laws.
The history of Islamic migration has never been one of assimilation but of colonization and, after colonization, overthrow.
It might be the right moment, if you have never seriously considered your Christian faith, to do it now, because there are thousands of people coming your direction who have no doubt about their own creed and will put up a mosque in your back yard to prove it.

Migrants by the Million.

Arabic text. "Go over there. The infidels will take you in."

Back from vacation from BWI and back to a Europe in turmoil with unlimited hosts of refugees and migrants arriving on its shores. They have come by boat, by foot on overland treks and by every other desperate and ingenious way to make it to their new land of promise. By far the majority of this suffering surge of humanity are fleeing the war torn lands of Islam, but it is interesting to note, that they have not turned to their Arab neighbours for help. The impossibly wealthy Gulf state nations have made it clear to their forlorn cousins that they are "personae non grata."

"Stay away from here; go over there. Europe will take you in."
And so, with the House of Islam in flames, its inmates are fleeing to the old countries of Christendom for refuge, succour and the hope of a better life.
And Christendom, it appears, will open their doors to these bereaved supplicants.
This great act of charity will have its consequences.
Old Europe, already stressed with unemployment, recession and social unrest has added a new factor to their unstable equation: the prospect of millions of Muslims to challenge culture, tradition and religion with their demand for sharia law and special status for the Nation of Islam.
We already have it in my country of Canada. We can expect lots more of it in the future.

Going on vacation. Restaurant Closed

The dog days of Summer are upon us. Everybody else in the family has been and gone. Mark and girls to England, Sarah and family to Ottawa and Sharon and the boys to the North country, our neighbours to their boats.
Pauline and me? Back home looking after grounds, gardens and multiple properties. Too much to run a restaurant as well.
I am closed until mid August.
Want a breakfast? Try breakfast with Bob or breakfast at WENDY'S  or Bertha's Greasy Spoon, or Jen at the Urban Dish: all good places, but Ian's will be closed.
Enjoy your Summer in safety and peace with God's grace.

Greece: They just sold the farm.

In my last post on Greece I speculated that, in the aftermath of the "NO" of the Greek referendum, they would be back to the drachma by the end of the month. I was wrong. Instead, last night, the government decided to sell themselves and the Greek people to their creditors in Europe.
Well, that is the short version of the outcome.
Here is a list of the demands from Brussels( E.U. Headquarters) that had to be met:  Increase Value Added Tax on all goods to 27%, increase the retirement age to 67 years, increase all income tax. Sell off 70, 000 public properties to available buyers and send the money to Brussels. Sell the port of Pireus and send the money to Brussels. Sell the airports on all of the Greek Islands and privatize all Government-run institutions. Reduce the military by 10, 000 troops. Allow IMF (international Monetary Fund) observers into the country to ensure no cheating and sign fidelity pledges that any advance of Euro funds would be paid back on time.
That, my good friends, is slavery 21st century style and a new form of occupation.
Many years ago the wisdom of God's Word declared the "Borrower to be servant to the lender."
Whether 2,100 B.C.  or  2,100 A.D. the principle is still true.
Pay your bills on time or bad things will happen.

Going to Pluto. New Horizons.

Want a break from all the madness of planet Earth? Go to Pluto, the farthest out of all the planets of our solar system. So far it has taken the explorer satellite, New Horizons, nine years  to make the five billion mile journey.
Now, with it's single eye, the space probe will be beaming its first close images back to earth. So far everything looks serene and quiet, no activity, no volcanoes, no spouting geysers, no clouds: nothing. But what else would anyone expect from a piece of rock so cold that it would liquefy nitrogen?

No, it's on the third rock out from the sun that the action is really taking place. I'm talking about planet earth, the abode of human beings. This is the planet that had a visitation from the Creator of All Things a few centuries ago and left the inhabitants with a message.

It went something like this: "You people have truly messed things up.  The whole world is in rebellion against Me and my government. Nevertheless, I am sending my Son Jesus Christ to die on a cross for you all. If you will hand your disobedient lives over to Him, I will grant you a free pardon and you can all come to live with Me on the planet that really counts. It is called Heaven."
Any takers?

How do you say "goodbye" in Greek.

It has been five years in the making. Let's call it the long "farewell" but this afternoon the Greeks voted a resounding "XOI" or, in any other language "NO".
'No' to more austerity, "Non" to more capital controls, ""Nada" to more pension cuts, "Nyet" to Europe in general.
Effectively this means that, come Monday (July 6th), the Greek banks will not be dealing Euros but in government issued I.O.U.s as the prelude to the new Drachma.
How much the Drachma will be worth is any one's guess but, put in the simplest possible terms, Greece will be a great place to go for a cheap holiday in September.
To any one else's mind this "No" vote is an act of national madness, but not apparently to the Greeks.
Tsipras, the prime minister, reminded the crowd last Friday that the very word "Europe'" was given by the Greeks in one of their fables and that the democracy we enjoy in the West was birthed in the homeland of Greece.
So, he argues, how can anyone kick Greece out of the Euro-zone?
Shortly he will find out. The whole country (democracy and nomenclature aside) will be evicted for NOT PAYING THEIR BILLS and that is a 21st century reality that thousands who sleep under bridges and who are refugees in shelter homes know only too well.
Spare some sympathy for the Greek people, not for their financial plight only but also for their nutty leaders who put them into it.

The great homosexual heist.

Let's be clear about it, after the U.S high court ruling last week allowing homo-sexuals to "marry", the illusion is complete.

I say "illusion" because that is what we have seen enacted by homo-sexual activists over the last thirty years.
They started with the lexicon when, instead of 'sodomy', the word became "gay"; then they called the most shameful and degrading display on earth  a "pride" parade. Not content with that, the holy estate of marriage was then mutated into a hideous blender-gender of the unnatural and the disordered.
This post that you are reading, according to the sodomite lobby, is no more than a 'homo-phobic' rant from a religious bigot who wants to criticize and censure other people's behaviour.

What next you may ask?

Mankind, knowing no limit to their profligacy and moral abandonment, will be organizing to legalize incestuous, inter-family relations and the right to consort with children.

You say "That is absolutely impossible."

Wait and see. In 1960 I said the same thing about homo-sexuality and I have been proved resoundingly wrong.

Better read your Bible folks. It has all happened in the past and it will all happen again before the return of the Blessed Lord Jesus Christ to planet earth. Then the fun REALLY begins

We are out of money

When people like you or me run out of money and can't pay our bills we go bankrupt. When NATIONS  run out of money they go bankrupt as well but it takes a lot longer.
Take the case of Greece. Tomorrow the Greek banks will close for at least eight days. Why? Because the European Central Bank has refused to provide any further funds so that the Greek banks can continue to operate.
On Tuesday Greece is due to pay its European creditors a debt re-payment of 1.7 billion dollars. In all likelihood it will fail to do so and the nation will effectively go BANKRUPT.
The result will be that Greece will be forced to leave the Eurozone.
That, in itself, may not be a bad thing for the Greek people but with Italy, Spain, Ireland ( the P.I.G.S.) also in a wobbly state financially we may be seeing the end of the the great common currency experiment: the collapse of the Euro and something that will shake the markets of the entire world.
I have often wondered just what it would take to shake the house of cards of the Human Race and bring about the arrival of the One World Order and, in due time, the One World Leader.
Maybe what is happening in Europe tomorrow will be the event so clearly foretold in the Book of Revelation.
What ever takes place, fasten your seat belts because we are all going to be in for an interesting ride.

Tunisian vacation cut short!

No one is surprised. Another massacre in North Africa.
The great flood of migrant refugees headed for Europe (120,000 this year) is matched by almost equal numbers of European sun-worshippers who flock to the North African beaches each year.
Today about 75 of these tourists were gunned down in a Tunisian resort.
The survivors, along with many others, have fled back to Germany, France and the U.K, with a ghastly new understanding: that militant Islam is a hellish scourge upon the earth that leaves a torrent of blood where ever it goes.
Prime minister Cameron said a few minutes ago:
"We must counteract this wicked ideology with everything within our power."
Brave words.
But please define what IS the "power" that will be used to counteract this "hateful ideology"?
Does he mean the power of democracy? Or perhaps the power of reason or the power of secularism?
A faint hope.
The only power that can counteract the scourge of Islam is the superior power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Which remedy, by the way, wise old Europe long since discarded as  a fairy tale.

The End of a Bad Idea.

There was a ruling passed by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) last week that will ban all trans-fats from America's food shelves by 2018.
Whoopty Doo!
After extensive research the Health Tzars have finally concluded that trans-fats( the equivalent of metabolic poison) have been responsible for an untold number of heart attacks and strokes over the last thirty years.
Now they will be banned from all processed food.
With an innocuous name such as "hydrogenated oils" what could possibly be wrong with this agent?
A lot.
By a process of chemical reactions, the hydro-carbon chains of vegetable oils are altered and synthetic fat is introduced into foods such as ice-cream, margarines and pizzas that the body cannot digest. Good cholesterol is suppressed, bad cholesterol is increased, arteries are coated with plaque and suddenly we have a heart put into crisis.
I am particularly aware of this lethal formula since my good friend, Ron, died of a heart attack a year ago. In his early sixties, Ron was a superb artist, builder of heritage log houses, a yachtsman and a prince among men. The early morning call that I received in July last year left me with a sense of shock and loss that still lives with me to this day. It has also been a stimulus for me to write this current series on health.
READ THE LABELS. They have not WILLINGLY been put on your packaged food. "Big Food" was compelled to label their products by law and, with the current trends of cardiac, kidney and liver diseases, there is going to be a lot more legislation coming their way in the near future.
