Most days we have people from Ukraine dial in to B.W.I.
Crimea is in the news this week after an historic vote to secede from greater Ukraine and throw its lot in with Russia. This has put the Western Powers in an uproar.
But we must learn from history. From 1853 to 1856 England fought a bloody and completely unnecessary war with Russia over control of the Black Sea. There were no winners;only losers.
However there are some relevant lessons that came out of the Crimea War.
1) 'Sandwiches' - a quick snack prepared on the front line for the Earl of Sandwich, and 'Cardigans' -a type of sweater worn by Lord Cardigan, have been passed down to us.
2) Gallantry and imbecility are often closely connected.(a lesson from the disastrous charge of the Light Brigade led by Cardigan at Balaclava)
3) That nursing, in immediate battlefield conditions, can result in saving thousands of lives. This was evidenced by Florence Nightingale and her heroic team of nurses in Sevastopol.
4) Lastly, DON'T GET INVOLVED IN OTHER PEOPLE'S CONFLICTS. The Crimean Conflict was initially between Turkey and Russia until England stuck its nose in and afterward wished it hadn't. We need to learn this lesson in 2014. Stay home, put on our cardigans and watch proceedings on our T.V's while we eat our sandwiches!

FINALLY.The latest update on our missing friends!
Continuing with our international posts, today we turn to North Korea.
It must have come as a great relief for Kim Jong Un to know that his loving subjects voted for his continued reign as the Supreme Leader in last week's elections. All the ballots have now been counted and the result was 100 % for Chubs without a single abstention or "NO" vote.
This means that he can continue in unperturbed peace knowing that his person and palace are secure for another five year term.
The slight hitch of having his uncle step briefly out of line was taken care of two months ago when the ungrateful dissident was shot. Now all is well again in Lotus Kingdom.
Such popularity must be unheard of in the realms of human history.
Why, when the very Son of God, was put to the vote at Easter 2000 years ago, democracy acquitted the murderer, Barabbas, and sent Christ to the cross. The tally was 90% for Big Barabbas; 7% for Jesus; 3% abstention.
That has been pretty much the breakdown of figures unto this present day!
But take heart, long-suffering Christians, the day is swift approaching when Christ enthroned in Heaven will receive His rightful due and honor. Guaranteed! Philippians chapter 2 v 9-11
says " His name will be above EVERY name, EVERY knee shall bow and EVERY tongue shall confess that Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father."
