Restaurant: Closed for Repairs

My friends, you will have to do without your morning coffee and bagel for a few days.
We have the technicians in, doing work on my computer and web-site.
My machinery has been in overload for sometime now. This has resulted in a slowdown of everything 'cyber' as well as glitches, "birds-on-the wire" and other odd things.
Ken, my back-room man, is sorting the matter out and we expect to be open for business by Monday, next week.
In the meantime, Les Dahl, hosts an excellent site. The address is
lesdahl@bedrocklife.com
He lives in the islands so expect some good 'soul food.'

The Life and Death of the Beatles

In the 1950's my brother-in-law attended high school in Liverpool with John Lennon. He was already entertaining his school mates with various gigs and by 1960 his band, the Beatles, were performing in clubs in the Mersey Side area. The British Invasion of America took place in 1964 and by then their music cult was established.
The Beatles used to play in a club called the Cavern in Liverpool. I was preaching around the corner in a place called Queens Road Fellowship. They didn't come to my meetings and I didn't go to theirs.
Shortly after, the Fab Four went off to India and graduated from Christianity to higher forms of revelation with their guru, the Maharishi Yogi.
Now,at the peak of their fame, they declared with full conviction that they were more popular than Jesus Christ.
These boys were in trouble and didn't even know it.
At this time, during a concert at The Montreal Forum, Lennon issued a challenge to God.
The brash pop star announced "God, if you are there, strike me down dead.." As silence reigned he then said. "You see what I mean."
Two years later the band disintegrated, Lennon was divorced and had struck up with Yoko Ono, and the pair of them had given themselves over to cabalistic howling as a new art form.
Then in 1980, outside his Manhattan apartment David Chapman appeared and shot Lennon dead. Apparently Lennon's challenge of 10 years earlier had been answered!
Today, in 2014, I am still preaching the Word of God in my own small way. The message hasn't changed since Liverpool days.
The Beatles are long gone but, I am happy to announce, Jesus Christ and His gospel are still alive and well.

Sochi. Let the games begin

I watched the opening ceremonies for the Sochi winter games and I was impressed.
Not only was the venue stunning but everything associated with this mega-event was accomplished with excellence.
Give credit where it is due. The person who lobbied for this Black Sea location  seven years ago was Vladimir Putin and it was this man who directed 50 billion dollars in national resources to make it happen.

Putin has run a gauntlet of criticism from the West claiming that he is homophobic and has systematically suppressed minorities within the Russian federation.
But let the man speak for himself.

He made it clear from the outset, that the Russian Olympics were to be a show case for the athletic abilities of the young people of the world not a stage for homo-sexual propaganda.

In a speech to the Duma, addressing the issue of minority pressure groups (Muslim and homo-sexual) he said:

"Russia does not need minorities; minorities need Russia. Nor will we grant special privileges when they yell 'discrimination'. We will not tolerate disrespect for our Russian heritage and culture"

Concerning the civil war in Syria, where he has backed the Assad government, he has said:

"While everyone speaks about the battle between the Muslims nobody has been concerned about the slaughter of Christians. Russia sees itself as their guardian."

Right there the man has my vote.
