The rise of the Super Bugs

If the title of this post sounds dramatic, IT IS MEANT TO BE.

Frightening news is emerging from the laboratories of medicine where the battle is being lost on the front line in the war on BUG WORLD.
In the 1950's a whole new arsenal of drugs was developed to fight against infections and diseases that had long plagued humanity.

We will call this family of wonder drugs, 'antibiotics'

Now, sixty years later, the microbes and germs that were once exterminated with such ease and completeness have staged a dramatic return.

A new breed has arisen among the seething hordes of pathogens. They are called THE SUPER BUGS.

This strain of pathogen has learned to DEFY all modern medicines and has brought giant pharmaceutical companies to the end of their resources in trying to produce a counter action to their deadly effect.
Strangely enough the most prolific breeding ground of these new monsters is in HOSPITALS, the very place where care and cures have formerly been wrought.

What is been called for is radical change in our thinking.

Everything, from what we eat to our sexual practices needs to be soberly considered, since, first and foremost among the drug resistant diseases, are S.T.D.s, gonorrhea and syphilis.

Makes you think doesn't it?

Send us a card at Christmas

Every morning Pauline and I sit at the breakfast table and pray for an array of people; family, friends, neighbors and, certain needs, as they arise.
One special group of folks who get prayed for are the ones who send us Christmas cards.

When the decorations are down we gather up the cards and, instead of dumping them, we put them in a box and keep the box in the kitchen. Each morning, thereafter, we take out a card and pray for the person or the family who sent it.
It we have 80 cards, then those people get prayed for AT LEAST four times before December rolls round again.
It may be a little mechanical but Pauline and I find that it keeps us in touch with people in OUR HEARTS and keeps our friends in touch with HEAVEN.
Do you want your name included? Send us a card at Christmas and we will put you in the box!

The year in cartoons

With all the instant ways to record events, having a family cartoon book would seem almost medieval. Nevertheless, at the beginning of each year, I set to work with pens and paper and sketch out the major(and minor) happenings that take place in our family year.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

When we get together at Christmas THE BOOKS ARE OPENED.
Sometimes it becomes the sum of all fears to feature in the cartoon book.It can mean that something happened that you dearly wished hadn't. The top picture shows my grandson, Tate, and his dad turkey hunting. This year without success.

This is a record of one of the "uglies". My son, Mark, blew up the B.B.Q. An anxious time since he lost his eyebrows, front lock and had 2nd degree burns to his nose.

..and one for the record books, yours truly at his 60th school re-union in England.
All part of the rich tapestry of LIFE.
When it's all said and done, what we pass on to our children is an archive of memories. Hopefully the cartoon books will help to bring a smile to the lips or a tear to the eyes of the next generation!
