Holocaust Sunday.

If you are not aware of it already, this weekend we commemorate Holocaust Sunday.

In Synagogues, Temples and cenotaphs around the world millions will pay silent tribute to the 6.5 million Jews who perished in the death camps of Nazi Germany.

How could the hatred and bigotry of one man and his murderous machine all but eliminate the Jewish population of Poland, Germany and France?

Easily and efficiently it would seem.

When State atheism, combines with the evolutionary creed of the survival of the fittest. When blind ideology has military power and the acquiescence of the public to do as it will, then expect horror in all its hideous forms to follow.

We live in the Free West. It will only remain free when people like you and me combine voice, conscience and the boldness of God to speak up in the day of our own visitation.

A day that surely MUST come.

Israel, the mystery and the miracle nation

May 14th, 1948, David Ben Gurion proclaimed Israel to be a "nation among the nations."  Since then,  against all odds, this nation, initially numbering a mere 400,000 souls, has not only survived but mightily succeeded.

Israel is both a mystery and a miracle:

In land area it is about the same size as New Jersey.

In age it is less than a full generation old.

In population it has only 6.5 million people.

And yet:

It is the fourth largest nuclear power on earth.

It has the most powerful and well equipped army in the Middle East

There are more Jewish Nobel prize winners than any other ethnic group.

Tel Aviv has become the centre of the world's diamond industry.

Jewish companies and interests control the world financial markets.

How can all this be explained other than by the X factor of God? Who in making a covenant with Abraham said.

"I will bless you and I will bless everyone who befriends you." (Gen 12)

My tiny pea brain cannot figure out most of the problems that confront humanity, but this much must surely be true:

It pays to be a friend of Israel.

Israeli elections. Where to now?

The results are in.

Prime minister Bibi and his Centre Right  party are back in the Knesset. However, there is a wild card extremist that has suddenly emerged.

He has the unlikely name of Nafthali Bennett. A dot com billionaire with huge financial and intellectual clout.

He is pictured here alongside Netanyahu but they could scarcely be called friends.

Bennett and his "Jewish Home" party have changed the constellation of Mid-East politics by their far-right agenda.

This involves:
1) Unrestricted development of the West Bank.
2) Scrapping the peace accord with the Palestinians.
3) Abandonment of the two-state solution for the territory of Israel.

In short; a formula for war.

What can we expect in the coming term of the Likud Government.

Certainly another Gaza blow up.  A rejection of any United Nation's involvement in Israeli affairs and, most ominous of all, a pre-emptive strike on Iran's Nuclear facilities.

It is the last prospect that should have us all reading our Bibles to learn about the final outcome.

What ever it may be it WILL BE interesting.

The Big Bible and the Inauguration

There were two or three Bibles being swapped around at the second inauguration of President Obama. Here is one of them with the hand of Joe Biden taking the oath of office.

The man who should have been delivering the opening remarks and prayer along with the Big Bible was asked not to attend the ceremony.

Louie Giglio, a well known pastor from Atlanta, was sent home.

It was discovered that twenty years ago he had delivered a sermon declaiming against sodomy as a sin before God. His text and foundation for his views were taken from the same Big Bible (King James Version)

Thankfully his 'bigotry' was discovered before he made it to the podium and a more forward thinking preacher was brought in as a replacement. A preacher who would welcome all "Our gay brothers and sisters to the fold."

This being the case, somebody better get to work on that Big Bible with a pair of scissors. Because either God or the President must be wrong.

Breaking old Habits

An unusual factoid was published last week.

2012 was the year that the number of obese people on earth EXCEEDED the number of malnourished.

This sheds a whole new light on Malthus who in 1790 gave the dire prediction that by 1950 there would be so many people on the planet that mass starvation would ensue.

Miss Piggy, who was famously quoted as saying:

"I never eat more than I can lift,"

would have hated the solution given by Jesus who said:

"If your hand offend thee, cut it off. It is better to enter heaven with one hand than miss Eternal life with two."

Clearly part of the problem of those who are overweight is with the hand that puts the food in the mouth.

Radical steps are necessary. Our local tennis pro some years ago had his wife's jaw wired shut. For three months she had lunch and dinner through a straw and it did the trick.

If you are serious about quitting your food addiction you must do WHATEVER it takes.

A person rarely gets overweight alone, since eating is a SOCIAL experience. Therefore they will rarely lose weight ALONE.

If you have a problem WRITE DOWN your weight loss goal, PRAY and enlist a GOOD FRIEND to walk DAILY with you back to the good old days of size 8.
